This is a delicate toy. If you plan on purchasing it for a younger child you might want to consdier that is it a robotic toy, small moving FRAGILE parts. This isnt a fishor price cat. This kitty does everything as described. I purchased this as a christmas present for my soon to be 5 yr old. I suspect some of the more frail parts may be broken but I decided to buy anyway. The ears are rather thin and one drop on the head could easily be broken (hence why take careful consideration for young butterfingers) Overall this is a great toy. Scared the jeebs out of our real cat though. It sounds that real.

I can’t understand the other comments on this toy. I just got it for my 2 year old for christmas, so excited to get it so I have opened it to test it out. Its GREAT!!!! All of the sensors work and it has been a hit at my office today. Some people even thought it was real. I love it and I know my daughter will too.

At first this toy did not seem to do what it promised (kneeding paws, purring, screeching when tail is pulled), but after about an hour in my 5 y.o. daughter’s arms it suddenly came to life – and she will not part with it. It’s not even cuddly – it’s a furry robot – but it is endearing nonetheless. I purchased a collar, inexpensive bed and bowl from a chain pet store to complete the illusion. My daughter is in heaven.
It has been dropped from a height of about four feet onto a linoleum floor and no damage. It has been jerked from her arms by her friends (because she truly can’t bear to let go of it), and it’s working beautifully.
I’ve splurged on electronic toys that were never loved – and it was hard to take the leap on this toy, but I cannot say enough of how pleased we are. Yes, it meows, but not excessively at all. Yes, it is pure white, but have not experienced a real shedding problem. Mainly, this toy had made its 5 y.o. owner slap happy. I’m out to purchase one for my 7 year old (who has VERY patiently watched her sister blissfully interact with this toy) for Christmas. I highly recommend it. An electronic toy built strictly for encouraging our instinct to care for others. Can’t beat that.

My daughter got this cat from Santa and it is awesome. It looks so real when it looks around and open and closes it’s eyes. It was the hit of our Christmas dinner with our family joking about it sneaking up on us at night while we are sleeping. We love it. It meows and when you pet it’s back it lies down and purrs. Also if left alone it closes it’s eyes and lies down like it is sleeping. I am so glad we have it. Although the Amazon price is not the best I have seen.

We just bought this cat at Walmart for our 2 1/2 year old daughter after Christmas. She’d recieved some money & gift cards & we were looking for an electronic puppy, but we found this, instead. It looked cool on demo mode in the store, and the functions described on the box seemed suitable for a toddler. An older child in the store had received one for Christmas, & told us that it was “awesome!” They sold out quickly. Didn’t have high expectations after reading the other reviews here. It looks pretty realistic for a $45 “robo pet.” We had to rehome a new dog due to the dog not being trustworthy with our daughter. She was asking for “her doggy,” so I gave her this cat & hoped to distract her with it. It was a hit right out of the box!! We’ve already named her Snowball. My daughter began carrying it around with her immediately, and wanted “her cat” near her at all times, either in her lap or sitting right next to her. As far as I can tell, it does everything it’s supposed to, & she’s had no trouble whatsoever getting it to respond. She’s already discovered that putting her hand over/across the kitty’s face will get it to turn its head, blink, move its ears, swish its tail, & meow (opens its mouth when it meows) — she loves that!! And she’s gotten it to hiss when handling its tail (you need to grab the tail in a specific place right behind the butt to get it to hiss). Petting the kitty’s back does cause it to purr and sort of kneel down & knead its paws (although the paws don’t really look as if they’re moving to me) — again, she loves all of that, too!! The kitty does sit back up on her own after kneeling, purring, & “kneading” her paws. If you put your hand on the back of kitty’s neck, you can feel her purr. This “cat” has already given her more “love” than our real 10-year-old cat, who doesn’t interact with our daughter much due to his age. You can pet it’s forehead, belly, & back (& cheeks, I think) for a response & some purring, so since she’s been carrying it around all day, it’s been one active kitty! Our real kitty won’t let our daughter carry him around, & he’s too heavy for her anyway. Initially, the kitty did go to sleep when it was ignored for a few minutes, but then, it seemed to move, meow, & purr for no reason, even when my daughter wasn’t touching it. I think the demo batteries that came with the kitty were wearing down, & causing it to act erratically. We put in fresh batteries, & it stopped behaving so erratically. It was still a little active, & not going to sleep. I finally figured out that being in the living room with the TV on & my daughter’s constant motion & noise was probably too much stimulation for the kitty. I put her in a dark, quiet room, and she goes to sleep fine (of course, there’s always the OFF switch). She does awaken w/o being touched, though. My husband came home, turned on the light, and was taking off his coat, etc., & she woke up, started moving, & meowing again. Don’t know how long this kitty will last. We haven’t had it long enough. It has fallen from about 2-3 feet onto the carpet several times, & is ok so far, but doesn’t seem as sturdy as TMX Tickle Me Elmo. However, TMX Elmo is severely neglected, & like I said, my daughter loves this kitty!! Yes, you can hear motors & gears moving, & you can feel hard plastic under the fur, but my daughter doesn’t seem to notice or care — that’s all that matters!! We’re very happy with it! Worth every penny for the joy it brings to my daughter!! We also found Scamps My Playful Pup at eBay, but I think he *may* be a little advanced for our daughter. We’ll see. She’s precocious for her age. If you have a young child, can’t have any pets, & can find this toy somewhere, get it if you can!! I bought 2 more for my friend’s girls! [Tips: (1) Make sure your cat has been switched from "Try me" mode to ON. (2) Wait for your cat to stop moving, meowing, purring, etc. before trying to activate another function. (3) If behaviour seems erratic, try turning cat off for a while, and then, back on again. (4) OR try putting in fresh batteries if behaviour is still erratic. (5) If the cat won't go to sleep, put her in a quiet, dark room OR turn her OFF!] Bottom line: keep expectations realistic for a mid-priced toy — this is not meant to replace a live cat. Don’t expect the cat to live forever. It’s not built like The Terminator. It doesn’t walk (you’d have to pay a lot more for that!), but our daughter doesn’t care, as she carries it with her all over the house. This toy was not purchased for Mom & Dad, so our daughter’s reaction is the one that counts! BTW, these can still be found at a certain huge auction site for at or below original retail.

Wow, my husbands niece is a tough one for me to buy for year after year. She is 7 years old and very particular. Also, I just joined the family 3 Christmas’s ago, so she is slow to warm up to me. This year she opened the kitty and we could all see how hard she was trying to control herself. She was so happy! I finally got a big smile and a hug for a gift! yeah!! Then, as we were leaving a little friend of hers came by for a visit I we could hear the squeals of joy as she showed off her new kitty all the way outside. None of the machine sounds bothered her at all, she knows it is pretend and was very pleased by all it’s movements and sounds.

We bought this cat for our daughters birthday! We have a one year old, and a two year old….and this cat has been played with nonstop all day everyday! I just had to turn it off because it was naptime and I knew if the cat meowed while it was upstairs the kids would cry and want it in bed with them….it goes with us everywhere…to the grocery store, to grandparents house and even to church. We got it at Walmart and paid $39. I wouldnt pay $60…(unless of course we lost it and we had to!)…..This is most certainly the best money Ive ever spent on a toy. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

A few months ago Grandma brought this cat to my toddler who is now 22 months old. She loves it! She calls it “kitty kitty” and carries it all over the house. When it hisses she says “uh-oh” and gives it a hug. She offers to share her snacks with it. It the first thing she looks for when she wakes up in the morning and the last one she says goodnight to at the end of the day.
Downside: It has gotten really dingy around the throat and face. No amount of cleaning keeps it clean for more than a day. Also she has broken both of its back legs and it won’t sit up anymore. These are not issues with the doll, just issues related to giving this doll to a toddler.

“I love you Princess.”
“Sometimes, she can be very frightening with her hisses.”
We’ve heard both in the first twelve hours of ownership. When Daughter opened it yesterday evening, everyone in the room (ages 6 – 60) was agog at how real Kitty was in her motions, noises, etc.
>She leans in toward you as you pet her.
>She purrs and her eyelids close to half-way
>You feel her purrs through her whole body
>The first time she hisses she will scare the bejabbers out of you
It’s unexpected when it happends for the first time, but here’s what we believe is a comprehensive(ish) list of hiss inducers.
>Holding or pulling her tail
>Squeezing her too hard
>Talking aloud about taking her to the V-E-T.
Okay, I made that last one up, but knowing what sets Princess off is a good way to avaid those things and to avoid the hiss. Agree with others that colors beyond white would be welcome.
PROS:
1) Realistic
2) Fun
3) A good job of mixing soft goods (fur, stuffing, etc.) with mechanicals.
4) Motors inside kitty are fairly quiet.
CONS:
1) The first hiss is a doozy.
2) She seems to be limited in her body positions … variations of sitting are all that we’ve seen to date.
About our daughter:
-6 years old, very gentle and respectful of her toys
-Very cyber-aware, knows that Princess is robotic (doesn’t make the hissing any less alarming)
-Loves her stuffed animals and other little buddies, takes care of them, brushes them etc.
Recommendation?
Overall a great addition, with a lot of play value. Feels like a real kitty, mixing the softness of the fur with the bone structure (kind of) of a real cat.
